If it fits

Recently, I stumbled upon a little gem called, “If it fits your macros.” Otherwise known as IIFYM. If you’ve never heard of it, I suggest you keep reading, it’s a real game changer!

So, I’m sure you’re asking, what is IIFYM? Well, basically it means if it fits within your macros, you can eat it! Although this is true, it is still advisable to eat mostly nutrient dense foods. I like to eat about 80/20, 80% nutrient rich foods and 20% for whatever I feel like. 

So what is a macro? Macro is short for macronutrients, which contains three things,

  1. Protein
  2. Fats
  3. Carbohydrates

I know some of you might be thinking, “CARBS?!” Yes, carbs aren’t bad for you. You get a specific amount of each macro per day, depending on your age, gender, weight, height, and activity level. I’ll explain how to calculate your own set of macros in my next post!

A little side note. When I started following IIFYM, I was taken aback by how much protein I needed! And how little I actually was consuming! I think I was consuming less than half of the amount I’m suppose to have! My nails were getting brittle and breaking, I was always exhausted. Now I have a ton of energy and my nails are looking way healthier. 

Downside to IIFYM? Well… There is one thing.. Protein farts! Yes that really happens lol. If you haven’t been getting the right amount of protein, and I hadn’t been, expect some protein farts. It’s worth it, I promise!
